Emma Moretzsohn says she is obsessed with traveling. So as soon as she had her Harvard diploma, she packed her bags for a trip to Europe. After working as a nanny in Italy, she came back to her native Philadelphia, ready to begin her career – preferably one that involved travel. She found it at Universum.
What made it click with UNIVERSUM?
The people and the atmosphere. They said that no two days are alike here and that I would get plenty of international exposure as well as lots of responsibility and client experience. That is exactly what I wanted.
Did it live up to your expectations?
To a tee. In my third week at work, I was sent on a tour to our offices in Sweden, Finland, and England. I had the opportunity to meet and learn from colleagues, as well as meet with clients. And I added three new countries to my list of completed travel destinations. This was a perfect start for me!
How would you describe your role at UNIVERSUM?
As account manager, I spend most of my time meeting with clients all over the United States. The majority of them are new clients so I focus on introducing Universum and discuss how our research and media can help them improve their employer brand. I help them develop a strategy for how they can recruit the talent they need moving forward.
What is it about employer branding that excites you?
I didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I was in college. Neither did most of my friends. But they still applied for jobs, despite not knowing what they wanted to work with. Now I see that many of them have already left, because it wasn’t a good match. This is not good for them, or for the employers. Good employer branding leads to better careers for students, as well as better talent for the employers. So by working with employer branding, I feel I am adding a lot of value to both sides. That is exciting!
How does UNIVERSUM support you in your role?
The entire recruitment class of 2009 has a network where we support each other on an almost daily basis. I also had a mentor from the senior staff for my first three months. That was extremely valuable. She is still the first person I turn to when I need advice.
What is the best kept secret about UNIVERSUM?
That we are a relatively small corporation, considering our global reach and plethora of products and services. Universum is clearly the world leader in employer branding, and we manage to reach that global impact because the people who work here are so dedicated, professional and ambitious. And yet, we are small enough where we know almost all colleagues by name and location. That creates a very supportive and inspiring atmosphere to work in.
